Well we did it! we finally got Cora's ear pierced and this time I think it's a winner.
To give a little background, I took Cora to get her ears pierced when she was about 3-4 months old and they were crooked so I took them out. I have struggled with having them done again fearing I wouldn't be happy with the end result so I procrastinated.
When Shalonda & Rebecca were babies I had their ears pierced with no problems or hassles and felt confident in my decision. When Shalonda was about 6 months old (this was 19 years ago) a little group of elderly woman shopping stopped me to inform me it was cruel to pierce my babies ears. ::Eyeroll:: What I think is cruel is the unwanted opinions! If my memory serves me right Shalonda barely cried and was asleep by the time I was at the register to pay for it.
Kelly was having her tires rotated on the van this week so I went and picked her up from Goodyear and we snuck off to Ihop for breakfast. It was raining and a dreary day by the time we finished eating and her van wasn't done yet so I had a brilliant idea. When I shared with Kelly my idea her eyes got big and she said, "I'm not holding her while they do it!" LOL...
We arrived at the mall and I didn't take my stroller in because it was gonna be a hassle to unload and etc. We ended up holding Cora's hands and letting her walk which took forever, but was better than having to carry her. When we got there I told Kelly that if the lady gave me the creeps or whatever I was not doing it. When we walked an employee came over and I told her what we wanted and proceeded to grill her. She was the manager and had been piercing for 8 years so I felt a little bit more confident but I will say she had the personality of a wall. I sat down in the chair holding Cora as she marked the spots and then we did the "are they even" dance and discussion while the employee looked annoyed. Once the marks passed the test it was time to proceed, and I must say I wondered if Kelly was gonna make it through it she looked a little green around the gills. (Not really but close!) I held my breath waiting for the loud shrill that was eminent and it didn't come, all I got was a little more than a whimper. I took a breath and looked up and saw surprise in Kelly's eyes. She and I were thinking the same thing, this wasn't going to be to bad. She then went on to the second ear, and this time we got a little more of a cry out of Cora. I'm not saying it didn't hurt but I think it was more of being irritated and I can't believe you are doing this to me again. I turned her around to face me and comforted her and she quieted down real fast. When we went to leave I picked her up to carry her out and Kelly said to Cora, "Your mom's feeling a little guilty!"
